The big purple lump sounds like it could be a keloid. Does the lump itself hurt at all? Keloids (which is the term for large scars) can be purplish or grayish in color. How big would you say the lump is?

To get rid of the keloid, you need to see your doctor and talk to him about steriod injections. You get the injection once a month and usually see results after about 3 injections. Unfortunately, there is no home remedy for keloids.

Now if you do get the injections and see some improvement, I would still recommend that you do not get it re-pierced. If your body is prone to keloids, which it sounds like it may be, then it is a good chance that it will just come back. You don't want to have to go through this over and over again just for a piercing, its not worth it. Good luck! :)
