Strep throat meds and yeast infections.
So, here's the deal. 12 days ago I caught strep throat from a girl at work. I got medication from the hospital here in town on New Years Eve. I started them that night. The bottle says '30 CAP APO AMOXI 500MG'. Out of the thirty pills I only took 14. During this time, a sore opened up on the inside of my lip. It grew until I stopped taking the meds. I stopped taking them because of an intense itching I had on my vagina. I know these antibacterial meds can cause a yeast infection. I got 'Vagisil' to make the itch stop. I was using that for three days and all my symptoms went away. Now last night, I discovered a small red bump on the outer part of my vagina. It's only itchy when it is irritated, other then that, it doesn't hurt, I have normal discharge. Everything else seems fine.
Is there something I'm doing wrong?
Or do I have something to worry about?

The medicine is most likely taking the good bacteria out as well as the bad.
You need probiotics to replace the good bacteria, try eating yogurt for awhile.
It could be other things as well but my suggestion is start with the probiotics.

Thank you. My mom also suggested I do that lol
So far, I think this is my best bet.

So, its been three days now.
Yogurt, external cream... Nothing seems to be working. I've even taken the burden of showering twice a day to stay extra clean.
I went out and bought vagina tabs now.
Perhaps the infection went internal?

You need to call your doctor and see if they will prescribe you something over the phone. Nystatin is what they always prescribed for my children. In a day or so the infection would be noticeably clearer.

Have you been back to your doctor to see if the strep is completely gone? My concern is that you only took 14, that might put the strep bacteria into a hibernation state, thus risking reinfection of the strep throat or possibly something as serious as rheumatic fever.
Many antibiotics, especially Amox, kill the good bacteria along with the bad, risking us to yeast infections. There is a good med that your doctor can call in called diflucan to rid you of the yeast infection. It's one pill and the yeast is gone.
Now, take this as a lesson, you should never NEVER stop taking antibiotics early, unless an adverse reaction such as an allergic reaction occurs.
Stopping antibiotics early not only poses the risks I mentioned above, but this is one reason we now have superbugs like MRSA as the bacteria becomes resistant to the meds since we only make that bacteria hibernate and not kill it completely.
Please, please, contact your doctor for a re-check if you have not already.

Okay, this seems easy to me. Yes, you're correct that anti-biotics kill the good bacteria that prevent an over-growth of yeast, which has happened to you. But the yeast infection needs to be treated as well, with Miconazole... an anti-fungal medication that you insert into your vagina. It comes in 1-day, 3-day, and 7-day treatments. I suggest the 3 or 7 day option, although it's not as convenient, it's more effective in my opinion. This will kill the yeast that's causing your irritation.
Also... next time you need to finish your entire prescription of antibiotics! While you're taking them, eating more yogurt and avoiding simple sugars will help prevent another yeast infection.
Good luck!
