    Photogravure prints
    Hello, I have several photogravures all by groupil. d. appleton and co. ny This one is dated 1888 and signed w.h. shelton its title is in hand writing arecolation of gettsburg. Size of just the print is 11 and 3/4 by 73/4ins. I love the print but don't really know anything about them. Thank You Very Much. Haylie

    For right now, I can tell you at least a little something about the artist. What is below, is quoted from the following site. William Henry Shelton - Union Soldiers on Horseback

    William Henry Shelton: A nineteenth century painter, etcher and illustrator, William Henry Shelton is today best remembered for his military art, most specifically his scenes from the American Civil War. Shelton, in fact, served in a New York State regiment during the conflict and thus his etchings and drawings are based upon actual experiences.

    As well as producing a number of fine etchings, W. H. Shelton also contributed many illustrations to leading periodicals such as Harper's during the 1870's and 1880's. He was a full member of the New York Etching Club and served as the Librarian for the influential New York arts association, the Salmagundi Club.
