AlyssaRox32:
The W-2 is a form provided by your employer to the employee to summarize what he earned in 2007, how much in federal, Social Security and Medicare taxes were withheld and (for your boyfriend) how much Massachusetts state income taxes were withheld.
The W-2 is sent to the employee, to the IRS, to the state of Massachusetts and to the Social Security Administration.
The W-2 must be attached to the federal and Massachusetts state tax returns.
He should have gotten the federal and state tax booklets in the mail already. He can mail the returns in, or he can go online to a tax preparation website (I recommend TaxAct.com) and prepare and file his return on-line. The IRS started accepting returns TODAY.
If he want, he can go to
Internal Revenue Service and see if he qualifies to efile
for free.
