    Heart condition ?
When I was born I had 3 holes in my heart 8 months old I had heart surgery, I am now 19 almost 20 and I'm 5 weeks pregnant with my first child. My parents are terrified that something could happen to me during labor because of my heart condition can anyone tell me what to expect of this?

I would not know where to begin, but talking to your medical doctor would be a first reccomendation. Have you had any follow-up testing for your heart? Sometimes once the repair is made, there is no need for worry. I would certainly talk to your doctor, as well as a cardiac doctor and let them know of the surgery in your childhood to see if it might cause any problems or potentially be something that your child might inherit in the genetic arena?

It might be a factor when it comes to regular child birth verse ceserian delivery, but again I do not know... I am only thinking that might be the most exhastive time for you... I am afraid that if I keep typing, I'll only add more questions for you...

Talk with the doctors, and know that medical technology advances related to heart issues seems to be doubling (if not more) with every five years that go by, so when you had your surgery, it was pretty much the dark ages... compared to today's abilities. Give all of that time, your heart may have had time to grow and become as strong as anyone else's. What kind of physical exertion activities are you used to doing?

I understand your parents worry, and don't blame them at all. It might be as simple as drinking plenty of fluids and eating healthy, but your doctor's are in a better position to assist you with your specifics.

I had a ekg done when I found out I was pregnant and they said my heart was fine, also I heard that since I had the heart preblem there's a 50% chance that my baby can get it as well

Do you know what the name of your condition was? Do you follow up with a cardiologist? Was the condition completely corrected with surgery?
