I have no way of knowing his dad's personality; the song or tune should reflect that. No one better to think about it really hard (your friend) and I am sure he will come up with some memories of what his father talked about liking and that is what it will be. Where did his father come from, what country? The tune or song could reflect his homeland.

Again, as Tickle said, without knowing his personality it's hard to say.

I will tell you that at my father's funeral this summer we played some of his favorite songs, such as On Eagles Wings.

Are you asking about a song that everyone or a soloist will sing? Or, maybe it will be played simply as a recording? Also, it would help to know how old his dad was and if he was a member of any specific religious organization and/or faith.

At my husband's funeral we played "Everything I Do" by Bryan Adams for the Entrance Prelude, "Angels Among Us" by Alabama for the Processional, and "Tears in Heaven" by Eric Clapton for the Closing. He was 52, and that was in January 2003, so I would think these songs might work just fine... although perhaps not the first song. I chose that as it was our wedding song only 10 years prior and both of us lived by that creed in our marriage.

I hope he finds something he feels suitable. I am sorry for his loss.

    Hugs, Didi

"My Way" by Frank Sinatra is perfect if he was a very strong figure.
