Questions regarding Request from father to terminate parental rights to daughter
I recently found out that my ex, the father of my daughter would like to relinquish his parental rights. He has been ordered to pay child support and there are no issues with that, since everything is ordered through the Courts. He has ordered visitation and has not acted on it. There is no contact between my daughter and her father by any means. I can understand why he would want to relinquish his rights.
One of the things he wants to do is sans child support in lieu of a lump sum. My question is this. Aren't most courts against (what one lawyer referenced to it as) bastardizing a child?
I am a single parent, a student at that and I am not interested in having anyone at this time adopt my daughter.
As I mentioned before he would like to offer a lump sum instead of paying anymore child support. Wouldn't this have to be through the Texas attorney General, since they are handling our case?
Even if all this is possible, would the attorney general tell him what an appropriate amount is or, is that left to me? What will happen to the insurance he is ordered to provide? And how likely is a court going to approve such orders?
It's an off the wall situation but, unfortunately, a more common one these days. All Advice, and or General responses are more than welcomed. Thank You!/COLOR]

The likelihood of him being able to relinquish his rights and get out of child support, even if he DOES offer a lump sum, is pretty close to zero.

If you have a lawyer, talk to them about it. I'm doubting he'll even get close to getting what he wants in this.

    If you don't have a lawyer--get one.
