    Filing Chapter 7 Bankruptcy
Approximately how long does it take once you've filled out the bankruptcy forms does it take to file? Does it depend on the State you live in or the court schedule?

Yes, basically the court schedule. In my area they're discharged 3-6 months after all the paperwork is in order.

Are you wondering because of creditors "on your back?". If so, they must lay off once you've retained an attorney for bankruptcy.

    Time frame
First it really depends on your case also, will there be objections filed by varoius lenders, are you going to turn over a house or merely re-affirm the loan. Plus your area, we are closer to a year to complete around here could be faster could be longer.

As was mentioned, the day you file, if a creditor calls you give them the case number and the lawyer name and number and they can't contact you directly again. Each creditor is mailed notification so soon none will contact you.
