    Outlet will not shut off
    My garbage disposal will outlet will not shut off, what happened? How do I fix it?

    Gemi,

    More than likely the switch that feeds the disposal broke in the closed position.

    Go to your panel box and turn the breaker off. With a Volt/Ohm meter, set the meter on 1K Ohms and connect it across the switch. Work the switches handle. You should see the meter's needle deflect to the right when the switch closes. If the needle stays to the right, then the switch is broken.

    Replace the switch.

    If it is a double receptacle, try other receptacle, one may be constant live, and the other switched, If above does not help, Does it turn off with breaker? If yes, switch or wiring the problem at sink, If No, Need to turn off second breaker tied to it and keep separate until location of 2 cifcuits are separated or Receptacle may not trip until 40 Amps(2 20 Amp circuits paralled)
