    iPod Dummy
 Okay, so, I don't have an iPod, and it's the coolest thing for the past 3 years. I'm 29, and I'm debating on purchasing an iPod. I think of XM Radio Vs' iPod?? Though I don't really listen to music due to lack of time, I still like to listen to a variety of singers from disticnt generes. Bottom line, I would like to purchase an iPod to be able to listen to Audio books and stuff like Anthony Robbins. Is it possible?? I read an article once where it claims lots of employers are getting into the iPod trend for training purposes. Lets just say music will be a leisure, but the real necesity is learning. What size is recommended for this purpose. Should I get a cool media/video screen with it? I don't know, I'm comfused. Can Audio books even be downloaded into the iPod?? Ur best advice is greatly appreciated.

P.S. Do u recommend I purchase an iPod at a pawnshop? What should I look for?

I have had a iPod shuffule for a couple of years now. I listen to books all the time. Get the books on cds at the libaray and imput to my itunes playlists . I have also purchased them from the itunes store. Pricey to purchase though. Mine holds 512mb so sometimes I have to divide the book into parts. So the more space the better. Most libaries have tons of books.

I don't think a pawnshop would be such a good idea, because you don't know what shape the battery is in, or the iPod itself. If you buy a IPOD that's battery is run down, whether the IPOD itself is OK, you will end up having to pay for another. Plus there's different things that unless you know exactly what you're looking for its easy to get jipped. It seems much easier to just buy one from walmart, at least you know excatly what you're buying for your money, because generally they aren't tampered with that badly.

I'd say probably an IPOD nano. I know that music videos can be put on it, the old silver ones hold up to 500 songs, and IPODs in general can handle a lot of abuse, I've thrown my across a room...

Personally I'd go with the iPod classic- it's only about £50 more expensive than the nano and it jumps form 8Gb to 80Gb. You can put anything on it that comes form a CD easily so no problem with the books!

If you are into learning, an I pod can be used for saving files just like a hard drive as well- I use mine in place of a memory stick/pen drive.

If you want to save money don't buy second hand go for a different MP3 player - perhaps other makes are cheaper. Many people I know don't find 8Mb enough so perhaps getting something around 20Gb- but in the end it really depends on how much information- songs and work you think you'll want to store.

For what you say you want I think the video version would be too much and a waste of money.

    Good luck!

PS with a portable player I bet you will find more time for music- I listen to mine walking to work and shopping, makes everything much more pleasant!

I just received my first one as a gift. It's a nano 8gb. If I were to have purchased, I would have gotten the classic 80gb, like templelane suggested. I would love to download books, but mine is filled now with songs.

    Go with the Classic!

I currently own the iPod video (30 gb). I currently have PLENTY of books, mcat books, medical journals, and videos as well. I'm not sure how many books/music the other people here have, but I still have a bit of room left in my iPod, and I use mine regularly.
