    Musty smell
I have a new home built in the Spring of 2007. It is a 2 story home with 2 bedrooms, bonus room and full bath upstairs. One bedroom located on the back of the house has a very musty smell that encompasses the entire room but, seems to be coming from one corner of the room in the wall. The smell has persisted for 5 months without getting better or worse. The walls at the corner are both exterior walls with no pipes or other water carrying apparatus. There are no water stains or moisture visible and the roof does not appear to be the culprit. The smell is the strongest at the floor in the corner but can be detected as much as five feet from the floor. We live in Georgia which is currently in a severe drought and we have had very little rain during this time. Any possible ideas or solutions would be greatly apprieciated!

    Just a few ideas.

Is there insulation visible anywhere in the areas with the smell of moisture? This could be the culprit.

It might have been, while under construction, the walls were not weatherproof and a storm came in causing the studs/flooring/under flooring(joists) to get soaked and now the smell might be persistent for a while,You might want to contact the builder and a mold/cleaning company to check for mold in the house.

Musty smell in water [ 1 Answers ]
