Home Pregnancy Tests Not the Most Reliable!
I am 2 weeks late for my period. I have been crying over anything, very swollen tingly breasts, very tired, weight gain... all the signs of pregnancy.

I decided to go to the store this afternoon & pick up a 'home pregnancy test' (I could not afford the more expensive one right now)

The result was negative, but I just know my body. I decided to call the hospital & speak to a nurse on the maternity ward. She told me that she tested negative for 3 entire months before showing positive on her 11th week. Her daughter is now 4 years old.

She said that sometimes the levels of the pregnancy hormone are lower in some women.
Some women get 'regular periods' throughout the entire pregnancy. I guess it goes to show you that we are all different, and not everything is going to be by the book.

She suggested that I either wait a week or so & try another home pt or just go to my family doctor as the blood tests are far more accurate.

Good luck ladies & I will keep you posted! :)

Also, don't forget, that it is important to test using first morning urine as that is when the concentration of hCG is highest. Drinking throughout the day can dilute the urine, thereby diluting the amount of hormone in the urine.

Thank you... that's one I forgot to list in my symptoms.. I have been going to the washroom 'constantly'... I may as well put my bed in there.

When I did the test it was Noon & I had already been to my new office more than 10 times.

I will most likely wait another week, do one in the early morning (more expensive.. I hear Clear Blue is the best) & see what's up then. I will also see my Doctor just to be safe.

I've got all the signs, it's like 'i know'.. but until I hear the 100% confirmation, it just leaves you in so much wonder. It's hard to sleep! :(

It's really hard to tell. To be honest with you, it could be a number of things, from a UTI to something more complicated.

I never tested positive until around 12 weeks along, actually when the levels should be declining. But, as you know, every woman is different.

The majority of the pregnancy tests work the same, no real reason to go to the very expensive ones. (We tested this in Maternity Nursing this semester with a gal who was 7 weeks pregnant). The main reason to get the more expensive ones is just so you can read "positive" or "negative" rather than the little lines.

Many women's intuition is better than a pregnancy test anyway.

I really hope you get the results you want.

Thanks. I would only be about 5-6 weeks if I 'am' in fact pregnant. All the signs are there & I really 'feel pregnant'. I will try again next week & then go get the blood work done to be certain.

    Thanks for the advice! :)

Ps... The urine seems normal.. just more frequent. No pain there & not a weird colour of urine or anything. The crying over the littlest things is the weirdest part of all. My Partner said he loved me like usual & I just started to ball. It's really not like me. My breasts are one size larger & very sensitive & sore with tingles. I guess I will just have to wait. :)

I will be very surprised if I'm not. I can't even stay up in the afternoon.. I've been so tired the last 2 weeks.

*If you don't mind me asking... did you test 'negative' before your 12 week 'positive'? :)

    Thanks!

I tested negative all 4 times prior to testing positive with HPTs, at 12 weeks. Apparently the only thing that gave me an accurate response early on was a blood test.

Good luck. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.
