Hi, I am looking at buying a 50hz 220 Volt incinerator but our supply here(Cook Islands) is 240Volt 50hz.

Will having a slightly larger supply do any harm to the 220volt motor.

No. There might be a slight change in speed, but a motor rated at 220VAC is in reality 240VAC. Kind of like 480 is commonly called 440 volts.

If this is for a commercial application, be aware that not only speed will be affected, but the running temperature, running current, slip, and other factors that will affect the life of the motor.

Most motors are designed to operate +/- 10% of nominal nameplate voltage, just be aware that the fast answer did not address these factors that will affect the operating and maintenance budget, and failures.

For a commercial or industrial application, nameplate ratings should match the available voltage supply as close as possible whenever possible.

Thanks tkrussell, It is for a commercial application, but will only be used lightly. I can't find any 240v incinerator's, so I may just have to live with a shorter motor life.
