Warm greetings to you. Please know that you are not alone in that feeling. There are many, across the world, who feel as you do being afraid of "death". I want for you to know, first of all, the word "death" or "dying" is only a term used by those who do not really understand the process of life itself. They generally feel that once you reach your appointed time, you cease to live and everything fades to black. But that is not so as research and many across the globe who have had NDEs (Near Death Experiences) say. Therefore, it is important to understand the actual process of what happens at the time of one's passing. The physical body is connected to the spiritual body by a silver cord that is not seen since that cord is in the etheric (spiritual) body. At the time of one's transition (passing) the cord disconnects permanently and what happens next is that the person finds themselves looking down at their motionless body but they are still very much Alive and feeling better than ever!
The spiritual body, or your spirit, is capable of retaining your personality and memories after the transition. Therefore, you have two very essential elements with which to continue life, but in another form. Spirit vibrates at a much higher rate than the physical body. That is why we can not readily see those in spirit. They, in turn, can see us as they can lower their vibrations to meet ours.
The important thing to realize is that there is no "death"! Younger people seem to have that fear but it is unfounded. Once they realize that the process of one's transition is painless and it is the actual moving from one life form to another but that you continue to LIVE, it gives them a great degree of comfort. If you have ever picked up a book and read about NDEs and people who had "died" on the operating table, for example, and then were returned to their body, you will further understand what they saw and why they no longer feared "dying". Some even welcomed returning to Heaven, the place they saw such beauty with Love and much Light during their brief time when they were considered clinically "dead". Many did not want to return to their physical body.
Fear of darkness is also quite common among some people. Basically, where there is no Light, there is total darkness. Darkness can be overcome with the Light. Therefore, it may be good to keep a night light or little lamp on during your sleeping hours as many people do, so that you will not find yourself in a completely darkened room. Know, however, that it is only your fears and that in reality, especially when you pray before going to bed, you will have an extra layer of protection around you. If you are a religious person you might want to have The Holy Bible near your bed or a rosary that has been blessed. It Is Time To Face Your Fears! Make a commitment to absolve yourself from the unfounded fear of darkness and "death" since both are blown up to be much more than they really are. Know that you are SAFE and with God by your side, what have you to fear!
