    02 Ram starting problems
I have a 2002 Dodge Ram that I have to crank for a few seconds while having the gas peddle to the floor for it to start. It's been doing this for more than a year now. Last winter it seemed the colder it got outside the better it started. If I start it within around a half hour after driving it will start fine. I've always thought it was some sort of sensor problem. The dealer hooked it up to their computer and they say no errors are coming up. They said one of the injectors seemed to be leaking, so they replaced it with no results. I took it to another garage who tested the pressure and they said the pressure is OK. He thinks there might be a stuck valve in the fuel pump which is causing the gas to flow back into the tank and it would be expensive to fix. One other strange thing is if I take it on a long drive, at least three hours, and leave it sit for a day, it starts fine the next day. Any help would be appreciated.

    . Change the fuel filter.
. Check the fuel pressure regulator.
. Ensure spark plugs have been changed in the last several years.
. Check the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor, which monitors engine coolant temperature and sends the PCM a voltage signal that affects PCM control of fuel mixture and ignition timing. The ECT is a variable resistance thermistor that's threaded into a coolant passage. If the thermistor is bad, you are not getting the rich fuel mixture required for starting.
