HP psc 2175 scanner ratcheting during start-up
Having an intermitent problem with the scanner not staying in home position, It ratchets back to home position The only way to stop it is to shut off the unit and restart it. Sometime this works and other times not. I have reinstalled it a couple of times, tried to use the hp troubleshooter but no help. Anyone have a fix for this?

    Mechanism Jammed?
If the physical mechanism is jamming, it's a hardware problem and re-installing your drivers will not make any difference.

If the scanner is under warranty, just get it replaced.

    Check if it's locked!

I have experienced this noise on a scanner once upon a time, it turned out to be in the locked position and trying to move. Once I unlocked it (physically on the unit) it was fine. Just check the manual to see if this is possible.

    HI,
Also, have you checked with the manufacturer's website, find your particular scanner, and see if there are any latest upgrade (downloads) patches for it?
My own Epson scanner was making a slight "sound" once in a while. I found a download from the website, and it fixed it!
    Good luck.

I have the same problem with my 2175, I disassembled it and made all the mirrors, the main glass, positionig strip and optical sensor clean but it didn't work! I don't know what should I do with my PSC... if I buy a new one I won't bye HP again because the new HP models have low capacity cartridges(funny cartriges) & it also has not a good customer service.
