I am sorry I wasn't online last night and didn't see this post untl now. Check his gums. If they are really white, there is internal bleeding going on. I hope that you have called the vet by now. He is in the position to assess if your dog needs to be brought in. I agree with labman regarding OTC meds. I don't think one Bufferin will hurt him but you shouldn't give him anything unless the vet says it is okay. You also need to ensure that your dog doesn't have any broken or fractured bones, and he isn't in chronic pain. Please follow your vets advice. He might be able to give him something else to ease the pain. If your dog is lucky enough to just be suffering from a severe bruising, it will take at least a week for him to recover. Just follow his lead. Don't force him to do anything and make sure he has a comfortable bed to lie on near the door. It will allow him to relieve himself without fear of him collapsing from overexertion. If he is bruised down to the bone, after a couple of days, you do need to encourage him a bit to move around. As I said, don't force him, but you do need to ensure that he moves around at least a little bit.
