Hello,
For the past several months I have been receiving unwanted telephone calls(on my cell) from what I believe to be CitiFinancial Auto or CitiGroup Auto. Three separate numbers contact me from 803, 817, and 972 area codes respectively. When I did a Google search on the numbers they all pointed to the aforementioned pest. I have been monitoring all credit reports since I had a similar incident back in the Summer which caused me to be extremely weary of identity theft. Back then, the calls originated from GC Services, a notoriously nasty collection agency. Nothing has surfaced on my credit reports, however. I am current with my bills and have received no notices in the mail concerning any account past due or in collection. I have received several past due notices concerning an education loan addressed to somebody with the same first and last name as me, but the address is up the street from me-evidently the postman screwed up. I have a feeling that this person who is in hot water with their school loan has also defaulted with Citi Auto and since we share the same name(except middle) and have addresses on the same street, they have somehow connected me to this and obtained my phone number. Nonetheless, I am getting seriously ticked off. The other day I was called at 8:00 A.M, 10:00 A.M, and 3:00 P.M from three different numbers belonging to Citi Auto. I've never dealt with these jerks and when I did purchase the car I currently drive, I wrote a check and paid outright for it. I'm not going to answer their calls because I know who it is and the other person on the other end of the line is probably sitting in some cubicle with a stupid headset on and has no clue as to what is going on. I would like to know if I could file a complaint to the BBB or Attorney General and even sue if collection efforts escalate. Any input would be GREATLY welcomed and appreciated. Thanks!

Have you ever talked to them? My husband had a similar situation where a person with the same name (different middle) had defaulted on his cell phone bill. Verizon called and called. Since we were never home to clear up the mistake, the calls kept coming. Finally, I got a call and told them that he never had service with them - his phone is through his company. They tried to verify the address, same state - different city. I told them NO and then tried to verify his social. I didn't give them that, but had them give me the last four digits of what they had on file. Of course, it was not a match. With that, they left us alone.
I would simply either wait for a phone call or call them back and let them know that they have the wrong person. Also, let them know that you expect ALL calls to stop immediately.

Answer the call and tell them to put it in writing and mail it to you. Than you can dispute their claim and than put in your dispute claim that all contact should be done in writing and no phones calls. This puts them on notice.

Excuse me, but you need to throttle back a bit. You have someone with the same name and street as you, the odds of you getting mixed up are very strong. This is not something to trash Citi or any collector on, especially when you make NO attempt to clear up the mess.

Take one of the calls. Get the information including an address to write to. Explain to them the mixup and tell them to cease calling. Advise them that you will be following up the phone conversation with a letter and that any further calls will be reported to the appropriate authorities.

THEN if they still call, you have a right to be upset.
