    British in India
    Hello.
I am doing a project about India's fight for democracy. Any information would be much appreciated :)

Why did the British decide to leave India in 1947?

I know that the British decided to divide India into Pakistan and the Republic of India due to problems with comprimising between Hindus and Muslims. But I can't seem to find out why they left in the first place...

    Thanks

Suffice it to say that Britain had been pretty beat up after WWII . They did not have the strength or desire to hold onto an empire ;especially against a large determined population on the Indian sub-continent that had caught the independence fever .
