What is the best for my child?
    Hello to all,

I hope someone out there can offer me some sound advice. This is my first outing on this site.

I have been separated from my wife for almost 5 yrs. She is South African I am British. We have a seven year old son. I have been living in Ireland for 6 yrs.
3 months ago she turned up and asked to reconcile while my son is with his grandparents in SA (he has always lived with them), I told her I had a new life and girlfriend etc. She has since told me I must give her money as she is bringing my son here to Ireland.
My concerns are she has no job, no income, she is not entitled to any benefits from the Irish government. How does she feed, clothe and educate him? Is this my resposibility?
How does a 7 yr old travel from SA to here unsupervised?
She has never allowed me access since she left me. As it stands I am barely able to support myself...
What do I do? She shouldn't be dragging him over here...
Any advice is appreciated. If I need to add more info please just ask.

You conceived him, so whether you have in the past been a part of his life or not you still have a financial obligation to help support him. Now, if your ex wife is moving to Ireland, you probably should try and determine how she expects to support herself? If she is looking to reconcile with you then you need to stop her real fast. Maybe she is looking to drop the boy off on you for a while?

Get custody of your son, and she has to pay support. She can even have visitations. A shame you have not had a chance to build a relationship with him. What an oppurtunity. Oh, the wife, who cares!

Well first minors travel all the time by air, they have special programs where they are tagged and supervised by air crews and transported between planes by airport staff. Not that I would allow my son to do this, but there are programs for it.

As for child support you should have been paying for the last 7 years, so get used to it, not doing it is showing a very bad level of repsonbility for our actions and children.

I would assume since he is your son, he would be granted citizenship fairly easy. As for her, my guess since you are both still married, she will ask for 1/2 of what you got and child support in court there after she gets him there. Plus of course since she is still married to you, that gives her an opportunity to be considered for citizenship also
