WHY did my period stop after getting an IUD?
I've had an IUD for about five months now, since then I've had check ups and everything is said to be fine, the thing though, is that no one seems to be able to tell me why I'm not having a period (yes, I know it's normal, that tells me nothing) and how I'm still ovulating.. where are my eggs going if they're not fertilized? How exactly is all that working?

It all depends on what IUD you have. If you have one with the hormones in, it is the hormones that are responsible for you not menstruating. Many times ovulation will not happen either.

What happens to the egg (ovum) when it is not fertilized? It becomes a waste product and is reabsorbed into our bodies.

There are two types of IUDs in use in the United States. The ParaGuard which is hormone free and can be left in place for 10 years. The Mirena is the other and it slowly releases a small amount of progesterone that affects the lining of your uterus. The lining gets thinner and thinner and about 80% of users will not bleed at all with in 6 months of placement. This IUD is good for 5 years. Your eggs are just reabsorbed by your body. Stick with this IUD and if not bleeding is a big problem for you it can be removed and you would resume normal cycles.

Well, the mystery of it all creeped me out. My boyfriend and I are much happier with pills anyway, him especially ;)
