Remove the plunger by loosening the actuator rod at the back of the drain and replace actuator rod so it does not leak, then using toilet paper folded up, plug the overflow and simply fill lavatory with water and plunger it to 'gargle' the pipes. This dislodges hair and crud and the cold water simply carries it away in clumps. Then clean off the plunger and replace. Don't forget to sanitize the lavatory bowl.

Last time, I used a hanger that I straighten and I did a little hook (very little) at one end. Plunged it in and pull. Watch for large amount of hair that cannot fit through the hole, in this case, try to remove some.

By the way, it really stinks, be prepared mentally!

You could try my home brew cure. Mix 1/2 cup of table salt with a 1/2 cup of baking soda and dump in the drain. Now add a cup of vinegar and watch the action, allow to sit over night and flush with a bucket of very hot water.

If I want to have a bathroom sink that drains, I have to have a plumber out once a month to clear the drain! He can't ever seem to find what's stuck inside so apparently whatever is causing the clog is getting pushed through when he snakes the drain out. Any ideas on what could be causing my...

Toilet flushes with hardly any power - everything clogs! [ 5 Answers ]

Toilet clogs often [ 13 Answers ]

Since I've moved into this house, the toilet backs up at least once a day. I've even purchased a new toilet, and have had the same problem. The plumber says he can find nothing wrong. The drain pipe from the toilet is 4", and not plastic. My children do not play near the toilet; my stack is...

Advice for preventing clogs from washer? [ 3 Answers ]

Speedball, you're my kind of guy. Advice to others here re washers backing up was really helpful. (Except for Fred, who suggested it was an infestation of Pipe Demons.) I can use strainers in the shower and kitchen sink, but no doubt my washer spews copious amounts of shredded kleenex, sock...
