Pictures for my husband.
I have a cousin who got some professional pictures of herself done as a gift for her husband. They are of her in her underwear but they are tastefully done and she looks great in them. I was thinking of getting similar pictures done of myself for my husband for a 1 year wedding anniversary present. The thing is, I can't go to the studio where she got them done because she got them done on the other side of the country, but there is 2 very good portrait studios where I live but I don't know if they do pictures like that, and I'm too modest to ask. Does anyone have any ideas of how I could go about aking them in a polite way that doesn't make myself sound trashy.

Check their ads (online? Yellow pages?). Call and ask if they do boudoir photography. Email me their numbers and I will call them and report back to you. (I believe in going right to the horse's mouth... )

Call and ask the studio in the same way you asked here.
I didn't detect anything trashy about how you presented yourself.
Definitely thoroughly check out all offers and use your instinct.

Well, I have checked online and the phonebook, and both say they are "family photographer" so I'm thinking they probably don't, but I still want to ask. My other option is I have a friend who is a wonderful photographer in her spare time and could do just as good of a job, but I'm worried that when she would go to get them developed people that work at the lab would see them or even make copies of them (I live in a very small city where everone knows everyone and that would be bad)
Would a "family photographer" still do boudoir shots?

Wait a minute! If you're too modest to ask, how on earth will you be able to pose in your underwear??
(Just curious.)

I would bet these photographers have been asked before you came along. They may not want to advertise the boudoir thing and still call themselves "family photographers".
There's only one way to find out.
What about posing in more than underwear, like in a pretty nighty or something a little more modest and something that might be more palatable to a "family photographer".
Any photographer worth his salt knows how to soften and airbrush, if he does the darkroom work himself. Maybe he could suggest some type of clothing that would be sexy and still keep both of you comfortable.

I know!! But I really want to get them done. It wouldn't be so bad if when I phoned and asked them they said they would have no problem and they'd done it before. I wouldn't have a problem then. I'm just scared of asking and them saying Definitely NOT!! I'd be sooo embarrassed!

I even want to try nude shots but of course stratigcally covered... my husband would be shocked, and that's kind of what I'm going for

Well, they wouldn't say "definitely not" (in caps, no less), but why not do it the library way? Ask them your question, and if they say no, sigh bravely and ask if they know of a reputable photographer in the area who does boudoir photography and get his/her number. (These guys all know each other... )
