    Another copy of my W2
Help please. Where can I get another of my 2006 w2? I need to send it to my mortgage company and I misplaced my copy. I need it asap. If you know how I can get it for free online let me know. Can I get it faxed to me or faxed directly to my mortgage company. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

The employer is your best source of this information. They are required to keep file copies of the W-2 for at least seven years.

If that is a NO GO, contact the IRS (you can get their phone number from Internal Revenue Service) and ask for your complete tax script for 2006 be faxed to you. The W-2 information is on that tax script.

You can then reproduce a printed copy of your W-2 by using 2006 tax software.

Finally, if you had your 2006 tax return done by a tax professional, contact him/her. They will have either a file copy of the W-2 or be able to print off a copy from their tax software. Expect to pay a small handling fee ($5-$10) for the W-2. I routinely print off W-2s for my clients every year throughout the year for EXACTLY the same reason you cite.

    1. Yes, first employer and your tax professional.
    2. Then call IRS for transcript of your tax return. Normally, for most of the requirements your purpose is served if you ask IRS for Transcripts instead of your tax return. You can order a transcript by calling 1-800-829-1040, or using Form 4506-T, Request for Transcript of Tax Return. There is no fee for a transcript. Transcripts have most of the information from your tax return including information from W2, 1099.
