I would like to cut 1/4" plexiglass without melting it.

Don't quote me but I think you can cut it with a table saw, make sure it's a carbide tips blade.ive also heard you can turn the blade around backwards but I've never tried it, it could also be dangerous to do so.

Agree with glavine... have a look in your local hardware store at saw blades. You should be able to find one that lists it can cut plexiglas. I think the blade I bought recently for aluminum was listed as plexiglass and non-ferrous metals.

Carbide blades work fine.

Incidentally, when drilling plexiglass soapy water (dishwahing liquid) makes a good lubercant. Black and Decker Bullet Bits also work nicely.

You can also fire polish the edges. Practice first.

Ronhell - I have used a utility knife and a stright edge, you have to make a few cuts across it but it works, after cutting a few times I clamp it down good with a piece of 1 x 4 and snap the piece I don't want off . NOTE ( IF YOU USE A SKIL SAW ,{ PUT A PIECE OF PLYWOOD OR 1x ON TOP TO KEEP FROM SCARCHING THE PLEXIGLASS ) good luck::: F.B.E.

The best way to cut plexiglass is with a straight edge and a utility knife with a new blade.
Score it several times to get a clean deep line and put it on the edge of a table with the edge extending slightly. Clamp the piece that you want to use down and snap the unused piece down like a piece of glass. It's always best to do a trial run if you can. Good luck. Using a table saw or skil saw will cause it to chip even with the protective paper still on it.
