    Sooo confused now!
Ok, to start... ever since I was in 7th grade I knew I wanted to do forensic science in college. I even took a forensics class in high school and just could not wait to start college and learn forensics. I applied to Buffalo State and John Jay and got into both. I was too scared to go away so I chose John Jay, since its about a 2 hour commute rather than dorming. Soo now...
I am in my first semester of college. I HATE IT! And now all of a sudden, I had some sort of epiphany and I realized, I don't want to do forensics anymore! So I dropped some classes and decided to finish out the semester... Now I have ABSOLUTELY NO CLUE what I want to do with my life! AHHH! I need to make a decision before January before I need to pay for the next semester!!

This happens A lot with College Freshman, probably more often than not, really. You change your mind once you start learning about something. I suggest instead of just closing your eyes and pointing at a new subject, take some classes that will help with ANYTHING you choose.. Math an English classes will be helpful in any degree. Also take a foreign language class, or sign language. Don't just drop out and think. You'll meet new people in college, learn new things, and perhaps one of these classes will lead you to your dream career..

So welcome to being an adult, most likely 1/2 of the students start not knowing what they want, and then about 90 percent of the other 1/2 change their mind before they finsish. At least you found out before you granduated and learned you hated it.

Yes, sadly too many people and this may not be your case, watch TV and think it is something like that, which it is not. Have you considered law enforcement perhaps. Also marketing is a great field

My advice is to continue your studies in that subject matter for many reasons:
1-You know what you want to study. This is a huge plus because so many people go to college while not knowing what they want to study.
2-You have background knowledge of this subject matter which is such a good advantage to have. I remember when I first started college and I wanted to go into engineering. However, I did not get a sound education in mathmatics which hindered me a lot. I ended up having to completely change my studies and I ended up studying Political Science. That was good for me, but it is not a practical major to have in the real world. I struggled with trying to find a good job and I still do not have a good job. But if I had the background education (which you have now) then I would have been great with an engineering major and would have had a good paying job!
    3-College is hard! College is hard!College is hard!College is hard!College is hard!College is hard!College is hard!College is hard!College is hard!College is hard!College is hard!College is hard!
And just because you have a few hard weeks or even semester in college you should not stop your study in that field. Trust me continue through this, take the classes that you need to. It will get easier as you go along. Your heart is in the right place, but right now (especially in the beginning) the course program wants to weed out people who are not serious. You have to buckle down and study. I found myself studying for at least 10 hours a day.
4-John Jay was the best choice you could have made because of it's forensic program. I have a friend who went there and did the same program. He loved it and has an amazing job now. You really must stick it out! I wish you all the best. Now that I am done with my undergrad, I am so happy that I finshed. This is only because a lot of doors open once you graduate, especially with that forensic program at John Jay.

I don't think telling her to stick it out is a great idea, because if she doesn't want to do this as a career and "sticks it out", she will end up hating her job... I think that she should study what she is really interested in and have a job that she knows that she will truly love.
