How To Split Rent With Roommates!
I'm about to get a place with 3 other people, the rent will be $1200 not including utilities and such. Now as I understand some people like to just split rent among people, which is unfair in the case of room sizes such as the master bedroom. I understand how all other bills will be divided equally but you just cannot divide rent by persons. Should rent itself be charged by person or rooms?

Another problem is that me and a roommate are sharing the master... how could the other roommate ask for 2 people sharing a room to pay the same amount as the people who have their own? Not to mention he wants there to be an extra cost added for having the master. Shouldn't there be a price set fairly for each room and if there are more then one persons in a room the set price should be divided? This is the way I figured it so far.

Rent for 3 rooms, the other still vacant.

    Room A(master) Room B Room C
    $480 $360 $360

That's $120 extra for having the master w. bathroom. I am flexible.

Of course the $480 will be divided between us two and all other bills divided equally even the deposit.

If I'm going to pay $400 or more to share a room with no privacy just like the other two roommates who have privacy and their own space, then Ill just occupy the vacant room! I just need a little proof or guidance to know that I am on the right track before its too late.

    Thanks!

The only fair way to divide rent is by room. The price of the room varies by its size. If two or more choose to share a room it would be for the cost benefit because they are also having to give up other benefits such as privacy rights. As for utilities and other matters, its divided up individually because its by the total household members usage.
