Hello, I had a heating company come out and replace the ignitor on my furnace this morning. While they were here they mentioned that my inducer motor has a crack in it. They said if we don't have a new motor replaced this could cause carbon monoxide poisoning. Has anyone else heard of this? A friend said to put high temp. silicone on it. Has anyone tried this or know if that would work? I don't want to pay for a new motor if it is not needed, but I am now paranoid of carbon monoxide. Thank you.

I`ve never heard of a cracked motor,, don`t think a motor would run if cracked,, the inducer housing or assembly that the motor fits into could be cracked,can you see the crack? If so until you can get it replaced some good tape would keep the fumes from being force out in to the area where the furnace is. Keep an eye on the tape as the heat may cause the tape to come off in a few days. Now mind you this is just a temparory fix

It is the housing unit. The motor is operating properly. Someone also mentioned using a silicone sealant. I found a sealant made byRutland. My carbon monoxide detector is registering 0. How much time do you think I can use these little fixes? I would like to get through the holidays unless it is unsafe. Is it common for fumes to seep out of a crack from the inducer motor house?
