Hi Speedball,

I'm unclear about what has been roughed in to my basement for plumbing.

There are two ABS (?) pipes about 18" tall and stoppered. One is 4" and the other 2". Also there is a a 4" drain that is flush with the slab and has what looks like a slotted plug stopping it. I would think this was where the toilet would go except that it is 12" from the concrete wall. When I frame in my bathroom wall it will be way too close to install a toilet. What is the purpose for this drain?:confused:

Hi Bill,
The 4" slotted cover sounds like a threaded clean out cover. How far off the walls are the 18" pipes? Regards, tom

The 4" dia pipe is 18" away from the wall and the 2" pipe is 7-1/4" from the wall. It's kind of hard to measure because of that PIA insulation that's nailed to the concrete walls that everyone tells me not to remove.

Next question Bill,

Do you plan on a 2X4" plate with 5/8" drywall or 1/2" fur strips on the back wall? Tom

I was going to hang (we have to use hanging walls here) a 2 X 4 plate with 5/8" drywall. I should have mentioned that the vent pipes are 6" in from the wall as well. Here's a pdf of my situation. The 2" drain is sort of hidden under the cross section of vent pipe. Let me know if you would like to see dimensions on this.

Hey Bill,

You're going to have to contact the company that put this in. It doesn't make sense to me. Why is the toilet roughed in so far out from the wall? Why two vents,( plus the only vent that would do the job. The lavatory vent) when one would do? Why place a clean out in the middle of the floor when it can be installed outside the bathroom? Your rough in just had too many unanswered questions connected to it. Was there some special application that I don't know about like a holding tank and sewage pump?

No special stuff that I know about Tom, except may the insulation is a factor. Here in Colorado they nail insulation to basement walls, floor to ceiling, so to speak, which makes it impossible to put a framed wall hard up against the concrete basement wall. If I build my bathroom wall so that in encloses the vents, the toilet drain will be about 10 inches from the wall.

Hi Bill,

They make a 10" rough in bowl so you could still set your toilet.. The only reason I can think of for three vents, (inciuding the lavatory vent) is that your local codes do not allow wet venting.
In our state the lavatory vent would have serviced the entire bathroom group. Tom
