    Shower drain diameter
I've got a bath plumbed out of a slab in my basement. It is stubbed with 1.5" drain pipe. There was a clawfoot shower/tub combo in place when I bought the house. I want to put a shower stall in place of the shower/tub. I know min. drain diameter is 2" for shower and 1.5" for combo's or single tubs. My question is since the old system drained just fine can I use the old drain stub and use a 2" to 1.5" reducer to mate the new shower drain with the old stub? My only other option is to break up the slab and find where the 2" pipe is located. That is out of my spectrum and will require a plumber for sure. Would a licensed plumber be allowed to run my new shower drain to the old stub so that I don't have to break up the slab?

    Much obliged...

You may bush down a 2" shower drain to 1 1/2" or go to Oatey and check out their Seris#151 1 1/2" shower drains. Click on: 151 Series to see. Good luck, Tom

We just put in a new sink drain and try as we might, it doesn't seem to be housed in there correctly. We are having a difficult time getting it seated level, and there is a gap (which my husband filled with putty). The gap is nearly 1/8" all around, not flush like the other (original) side. The...

Drain diameter ?: sink vs toilet [ 1 Answers ]

Tom, I'm planning on moving my toilet from one side of my bathroom to the other. I plan to tap into an existing drain for a bathroom sink (the sink will be moved elsewhere). I'm not sure about the compatibility of the drain pipe diameters, so I guess that's the first question. If they are not...

Installing Basement Shower Drain with Washing Machine Drain [ 5 Answers ]

Hi folks: I would like to install a shower that drains into the same drain as my washing machine. Right now the washing machine drain, 1-1/2" ABS, comes in horizontally about 12" above the concrete floor into a 1-1/2" Tee on a vertical pipe. From this Tee, the vent goes straight up to the...
