Hi. I'm tiling a bathroom in my basement, and when I plumbed in the drain pipes under the cement I left the shower tube sticking out of the cement. I'm putting in a shower liner and then going to mortar over it, and I have a floor drain that connects to the pipe, but do I have to cut the pipe sticking out of the floor back into the floor? Or does it go just above? The drain assembly I have looks like it will stick about 3 inches out of the ground if I cut the floor pipe to level.
Any help would be appreciated for my confusingly worded question.

Do you have a floor drain that you've jammed a pipe into for a shower raiser?
You do not have to pan a shower if it's on a slab. You will use a regular shower drain,(see image) and position it so the tile floor slopes to it.
If you still wish to install a shower pan you will have to frame it out with a threshold and use a flange type shower drain,(see image).
They way we do it is to break out the cement in a square or rectangle and dig down a ways and then cement the floor of the dap-out. Install the shower drain and slope the mortar and tile to it. Good luck, Tom

Hey Shaun, Tom gave you some good advice. Most shower liner kits iclude a drain assembly, have you checked the box and the install instructions inside? Is your drain sticking out of the floor PVC or cast? Tom just helped me with my own retro install on a 40 year old house plumbed with a floor drain below the shower stall. I had never seen one of these but Tom sure had. It actually made the install a lot simpler than I had envisioned.
