    Have you removed the handle and the packing nut?

    What kind of faucet is it. Different faucets come apart in different ways.

    You first must shut the water off to the valve and remove the handle and chrome plate if any. This will take you to the bonnet packing nut,(see image). Unscrew the nut and back the stem and washer assembly out counterclockwise. Don't forget to check the seat for nicks or rough spots. Good luck, Tom
