Need help to get out of debt
Hi, I am a new immigrant to USA. After I just arrived, I accidentally involved with a scam (I now think it's a scam) and ended up now having about 65K debt (15K from bank, and 50K from credit cards). The money I made right now can barely cover the minimum payment after my regular living expense. I don't really want to file bankruptcy because I am a new immigrant. I would like to know:
    1) Can I sue the cheater if I don't have any evidence? The cheater kept telling me he would give the money back to me, but it never happened. And my payment pressure is killing me.
    2) Is there any way that I can get out of / lower these debt so I can be a free man again?
Any suggestion is appreciated. Thank you.

First you should contact the police, this may well be criminal.

Next if someone has voliated a contract, even a verbal one, they can be sued. Harder to win without proof, and since it is such a large amount you will need to hire an attorney.

So your first stop will need to be a good attorney, then your local police station.

    Unfortunately you are probably screwed.

Scammers rarely stick around. And as you said, you have no proof.

You need to hire an attorney and report this fraud (scam) to the police. This Scammer might be pulling this scam on other people.

However, let’s say you sue him and win. He might have no assets to pay you.

Did you use your own Credit Cards to buy products for him or what? Because if you yourself used the credit cards, then you are on the hook legally with the CC Companies for the 50K debt owing.
