You are looking at a window when you are looking at anything, there will be an item down on the task bar at the bottom of the screen for each window that is open, if you say yes, to open in new window, one additional item will be added to the taskbar, if you say open, your new item will replace the current window and if you want to get back into what was just the current window, you will have to open it up from scatch, through all the needed steps. Does this help, is this what you are looking for?
IE, internet explorer and FF Firefox now use TABS to represent new windows, you can close them one at a time or all of them as a group so be careful. Are you familiar with these tabs.

I am in windows explorer, not IE, I have a display of several folders, I would like to open one of the folders in a new window, them open a second in a new window so as to see a window with each of the open folders and a window with the original display.

OK, right click the folder you wasn't to view and click on open, go back to your tree view (WE) and right click on your second folder and click on open. Then resize (restore) these two windows to fill 1/2 of your screen or what ever size you want them. Do you know how to manipulate the resize of a window by grabbing and dragging its sides to whatever size you like.

Thanks for your response... but I still am not giving enough background.
I have my WE tools, folder options, browse folders, "Open each folder in the same window"
I do not want to change this setting but do want to open selected folders in its own window.

Right-click on one of the highlighted folders and select Open; each folder will open in its own window. I just tried it here and it works.

I followed your directions & I see where you are, my direction should do what you want. Right click the folder, click on Open & it will Open in its own window. Why do you not want to change settings, how many folders do you want to Open at the same time in its own window as opposed to certain folders taking over another folders window & replacing it?

Just right click on the folder you want and hit "Explore" instead of "open". Well at least that's what I do here!
