    Comorbidity means the effect of all other diseases an individual patient might have other than the primary disease of interest.

    So, no, being insulin dependent typically does not mean that this is an effect of a disorder other than diabetes.

    In Type I diabetes the pancreas does not produce insulin.

    In Type II diabetes the pancreas does not produce enough insulin.

    For example: Diabetes and High blood pressure can be independent of each other, although they are often closely associated [ metabolic syndrome ].

    A heart attack/ heart disease may be the result of diabetes and /or high blood pressure.
