    Heat problems
I have a 3 year old house that's heated with a heat pump. All of the heat pump equitment is in the attic instead of the basement. For some reason unknown to me they put the vents in the ceiling. So because of heat rising I have trouble keeping my downstairs warm. I played with the dampers but still have trouble keeping downstairs warm and upstairs not extremely hot. I recently got a electric fireplace to help with heating downstairs but didn't even think about it not letting the heat pump kick on for up stairs heating. I have an open floor plan down stairs. There are a total of 6 vents in ceiling down stairs in which all are wide open and there are 3 bedrooms upstairs with two vents in each which one in each is totally closed. And 2 bathrooms upstairs with 1 vent in each fully open. Please help me I've been messing with this problem since I moved in three years ago and I'm going crazy trying to figure it out.

    Thanks,
    Mike

Actually to make it work correctly will take a lot of changing of ductwork. In cases like this I recommend you call a engineer or a HVAC company and allow them to make recommendations. With out having proper floor planning, room sizes. Window sizes, and insulation values for walls, ceiling ETC it will be impossible to calculate. It would be best if they do a Manuel D to start with just to get a ruff idea of the items needing to be addressed.
