pressure tank replacement
I currently have a 14 years old Well-X-Trol 36 gallon pre-charged pressure tank what has a slow air leak and will not longer hold pressure more than a few days. If I replace it in kind there is the Well Saver 36 gal (Lowe’s) or the Flotec 35 gal (Home Depot). Which is better brand? Secondly, is there any advantage of replacing the tank with one that holds a larger capacity? The Well Saver 52gallon costs just a little more than the 36 gallon. Which is the better brand and should I increase the tank capacity?
Thanks for your help,
Tony

Before replacing the tank, you should check the air fill valve to see if it's just a simple matter of tightening the inner needle valves seat.
Pump it up with an air compressor and then spray the air fill valve with soapy water.
If it bubbles, then you've found your leak.

Growler is entirely correct. The valve is similar to what is on a tire.
To answer your question, I bought a Well Saver from Lowe's and it has been fine. The advantage of a larger tank is just that your pump will cycle fewer times since it will have a larger reserve it can use before the pressure drops enough to cut the pump on. Fewer cycles for a pump is good.

Yikes!
We try to avoid favoring one manufacturer over the other here, so I've been told, anyway.
Having said that, I have never used any of Flotec's products, but I have used numerous X-Trol products over the years without any issues whatsoever.

Growlers correct, we try not to advertise products,( the site mods frown on it) but when a product's outstanding or you can only get it from a certain manufacture we pas it on. Conversely, if a product's bad or we've had complaints on it we pass that on also. Growler did you a favor by advising yiou against a product he knew has been trouble in the past. Regards, Tom
