Tax components for H1B worker in the US
    Hi,
May I know the different components of tax (both federal and state) a H1B worker in the US need to pay? I know there will be some differences of percentages depending on the total income range and the state and also on number of dependents etc.

Assuming an H1B worker is single and has no dependents, works full year and his total billing is say 120000 dollar per year, may I know the different components and their min-max range (depending on state)

Which components are paid by the employer and which by the employee?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Actually, the tax tables are the SAME for a resident and non-resident alien.

The major differences are whether you can claim the standard deduction (this is often offset by the fact that you CAN itemize and also claim a treaty exemption as a non-resident alien) and whether you can claim certain credits or deductions.

Your federal tax liability on $120,000 will be about $26,000.

You are also liable for 1.45% of $120K for Medicare and 6.2% of $97,400.

There will also be some state tax liabilities, unless you are residing in one of seven states that have no state income tax.
