You're right! With some knowledge and a few of the better sites, you can predict the weather pretty close. The key is in learning long-term models. Time to watch things develop. I've dodged many weather systems in undersized boats by predicting where is the nasty going to next.

Well, I shy away from anyone that say they can predict the future. Kind of like the stock market. But, with the right knowledge and tools, we can come pretty close. It's those minute details that we forgot to account for that usually get us.
Plus, I believe it is all cyclic with different conditions triggering the cycles for longer or shorter periods.

Right; Therefore, too much to calculate. Let a monkey throw a dart at the weather dart board and just go with that! :)

There's not too much to calculate, but there's still a monkey! Hehe
Get your data about winds aloft, jetstream at upper elevations, and you have what they call steering currents.

Follow frontal boundary data to see temperature change, and with moisture content: precipitation.

Or, you could stick your finger in your mouth and then stick it up in the air. That will tell you about the same thing. The precipitation is obvious.

It is supposed to be 67 degrees in Chicago with bright sunshine today. We have been pretty fortunate... so far.
