I can't log on to AOL
I'm getting this error message in AOL 9.0 every time I try to open to sign on:

    Microsoft Visual C++ Debug Library

    Debug Assertion Failed!

    Program: C:\PROGRA~1\COMMOM~1\aol\ACS\AOLacsd.exe
    File: c:\program files\microsoft visual studio 8\vc\include\list
    Line: 776

Expression: list erase iterator outside range

For information on how your program can cause an assersion failure, see the Visual C++ documentation on asserts.

(Press Retry to debug the application)

Then I press ignore & then it goes into a checking for connectivity thing that just keeps checking forever. Does anyone have a solution to fix this?

Looks as if your program is damaged, you may have to reinstall AOL on your computer. This should not erase your saved emails and address book but make copies of them first just in case.

I uninstalled, restarted & then reinstalled the new version 9.0 VR & I'm still getting that same message. It also keeps saying something about plug in phone line. I have a cable modem.

I clicked on Redetect Connection Devices & this is what I got:
This One-click Fix redetects the device that you use to connect to AOL and the Internet (e.g. a specific modem). It should take less than 2 minutes to complete.

ALL AOL software must be closed to complete this One-click Fix. Please save your work and close AOL.

When done, start this One-click Fix by clicking Continue.

Once I clicked on Continue that message came back up again & it also said reconnect phone line to modem. There's no phone line connected to the modem & none is missing.

Sorry, looks as though I gave you the wrong advice. I read the error message and it said that there was a runtime fault. Can you get internet (does your browser work)?

Yep. IE7 sucks but it works. I mostly use Firefox.

If you use Firefox (great isn't it), have you thought of also using their email client Thunderbird?

Glad you are connected to the internet, sounds as if this is AOL specific.
I'm afraid I can't help, having never used it. Hope an AOL expert comes by.

:) Thanks for your help. I absolutely love Firefox! It's the best browser & I transferred all my IE stuff over. It alphabetized everything. I'll have to check out Thunderbird as well even though my favorite email right now is Gmail.
