Unknown to me my boyfriend prior to his death used my credit information and acquired several credit cards in my name that he used. The bills are now coming to me -- I did not apply for any of these cards. I've asked the credit companies over the phone and in writing to provide me with a copy of the original signed application but they have not. They keep calling me at work even though I've told them not to do so over the phone and in writing. Their response to me is 'we can call you because we have not other place to reach you'. Any advice?

Send them a letter stating all contact with you shall be done in writing only.

I would file an indentity theft report with the police department. The credit card companies are going to require that documentation before they write off the debt. Most likely they think you are just trying to avoid the debt.
