Although usually required annually, rabies shots should last 3 years. There are plenty of other nasty infections. Clean it good with peroxide. If you see redness or swelling, get her to the vet. Perhaps anyhow if it has been a year since her last shots.

Once exposed to rabies, it requires more drastic measures than just a shot. My son had to go through the treatment recently. He was bitten while extracting a cat from the mouth of his Fox Hound. The ungrateful wretch ran off eliminating the possibility of checking if it had its shots. He decided not to knock on doors and explain why he wanted to know if their cat had it rabies shot. People might not understand how much of a problem their failure to control their cat caused a guy with his dog on leash.

I am so sorry your doxie was bit. What an upsetting incident! Aside from cleaning the wound as labman suggests, it would be wise to call your vet on Monday and tell him/her what happened. There is a good chance they will suggest a booster shot and while you are there, the vet can examine the bite and might suggest an antibiotic to keep any infection at bay. If you contact your vet about this and follow his/her directions, it will give you a much greater sense of comfort.
