Puppy howling & screeching in crate
We just got a male mini daschund 2 weeks ago. We bought a crate and keep him in there during the day. However, whenever we get home he has managed to move his crate in another part of the house due to his panicky attitude while in the crate. He howlse, screetches, barks, and jumps around in there (which causes the moving). He basically is acting like someone is chopping him into pieces. I don't open the door he's quiet and not having an attack. I would like to know if this is normal for pups?

Also he does not do any business in the crate and is extremely praised when taken to his appropriate spot to do his business. However, throughout the night he will get of our bed and pee and poop on the floor and I find it in the morning. I follow this dog like if her were a baby. I've already caught him a few times peeing on the only area rug I have left in the house. I sternly yell NO Bear and he looks at me like oops but will do it again. After yelling I take him to the appropriate pee and poop sight and he does nothing. He just looks at me.

Should I crate him at night even though my older daschund sleeps in bed with us? I feel bad leaving the animal so long in his crate, but I just don't think he's getting the picture.

    HELP me PLEASE.

You don't say how old he is. Most puppies need to be past 2 months before going over night without relieving themselves. Even then, it may require taking the water up at 7 PM and walking him around for a while before bed time.

I think he may have been left in a crate or cage too long before you got him. Tomorrow night after we get home with out new 7 week old Lab, at bed time, I expect to put her in her crate, lay down in front of it and have her fall asleep soon. She likely will wake us, well, my wife, about 3 AM for a trip outside. It has worked this way for at least out last dozen puppies.

For a past poorly cared for puppy, try putting a Kong stuffed with peanut butter. Perhaps introduce one before crating her. Otherwise, he might be too stressed to realize what it is. Don't over do the peanut butter. Most of his calories need to come from a dry puppy chow.

I would crate him at night, and hope he wakes you up when he needs to go out. For more details, see the sticky starting at https://www.askmehelpdesk.com/dogs/i...tml#post251802
