My bathtub faucet runs like its still on after I cut it off, any suggestions?

Shut off your main and open faucet. It either has a washer or a cartridge. Unscrew the cap nut under the handle and then pull or unscrew the valve stem and tell us what you see. If it's a simple washer remove the screw and replace the washer. Stick your pinky into the hole and feel for burrs and irregularities. If the seats are bad we can tekk you how to repair them. Back to you.

Any idea of about how much this will cost if I have a plumber come out?

A service call an about 30 minutes of labor could run you $75. It really depends on where you live and what a service call goes for in your area. This is not something that demands a plumber's skill. You might give it a try yourself. Speedball1 is our plumber and he will gladly walk you through the steps as many of us would do. Send Speedball1 a IM if you'd like a consult.

OK, well as long as its not in the $300, trust me I don't want to mess this up

I live in northwest Indiana, and that service charge is about right, I just hope it doesn't require a whole lot of work. Like I said I turn it off, and the faucet just runs anyway. Just started happening the other day...

So you're saying from your expertise this probably shouldn't take that much to fix?

Yep, I'm guessing that you will find a washer that has chipped or cracked and needs replacing. Not a high skill job and if you somehow make a mistake it won't cause the repair bill to increase should you call a plumber.

By the way local hardware store may select and change washer free if you bring in stem. You pay for parts.
