Why cant my car be put in my name
My parents have recently kicked me out of my house and I am only 17.I turn 18 in less then 5 months, I have decided to leave and move on with my life. When I was 16 I went out and bought my car with my own money and everything, but it can't be put into my name why is that? I paid for the thing I should have ownership of it. My parents never paid a penny on it and never has so why do they get to keep it in their name? Please help or tell me something I can do.

You can't because you are not 18 , yet. You can't make a legal contract with the state because your parents are still responsible for you. You won't be able to get insurance until you are of age, either.

You see if you had been savvy when you paid for the car with your own money, you might have asked the car dealer to list only you on the Bill of Sale and that way perhaps the State would have let you title it in your name (In the state I live in, a minor can have a vehicle titled in his or her name. But then the car dealer or whomever sold the vehicle to you, if they were savvy, then they would not have sold a car to a minor. There are legal liability and contractual liability reasons the seller might not want to sell a vehicle to a minor and then I guess some states will not let a minor title a vehicle in his/her name --- I don't know... I mention this only because the first answer you recevied mentioned flat out that you could not. Frankly if I were your parent, had just asked you to leave I would not want my vehicle on the street, in parking lots etc or anywhere for that matter, titled in my name... I might incur some legal liability since it simply was registered in my name. I know this didn't answer you question as to why you can't have the veh titled in your name... there are many reasons as you can see.
