    If a father gives up his rights to his child is he still obligated to pay child support.

    I am sorry you are getting some mis-informed information.

    In gerneral in most states in the US, unless there is a new partner to adopt and you sign over your rights and sign to allow the adoption, you will still pay child support even if you sign over your rights

    Unless the child is adopted... the parents are still responsible for child support.
