Lately, My hands and feet get red and itch in the evening and at night. Taking Benadryl seems to help but if I don't take it, it wakes me up in the middle of the night. Can't figure out what is causing it. It is a deep itch that seems to come from within, not from the skin. Any ideas or suggestions?

Some of the first questions that come to mind are:

1. Do you have high blood pressure?
2. Have you checked your blood sugar levels at fasting (Diabetes)?
3. Have you been overly stressed out about something lately?

In my opinion, if something like this happened to me, I would take a look at the three items above and I would go to the Pharmacy and get over the counter non-drowsy allergy medicine like Claritin or Allegra.

If the hot and itchiness were due to allergies, then the antihistamine would reduce the reaction. You can also rub your hands with Benadryl Gel - it is very good at reducing itchiness.

I would also schedule an appointment with my Doctor in the near future unless the symptoms suddenly get worse, or if I found something irregular when checking my BP and Blood Sugar. (you can check your own blood sugar by getting a very inexpensive checker at the Pharmacy. Fast for 8 hours, and measure your Glucose level. It should be 70-99 milligrams per deciliter, approx.)
