    File wrong form
    Hi,
I became H1B from October 1,2006 and had OPT prior to that. When I filed tax return for last year, I paid and used a tax preparer online. When I did the process online, it asked me many questions but did not ask if I was a foreigner until I noticed it said somewhere the website did not offer 1040NR or 1040NR-EZ preparation but it was already too late. I filed 1040A instead of 1040NR. So, I think I filed the wrong form for the tax return last year! Will I be heavily fined by IRS? Is there anything I can fix it? Thanks for any input!

You should file an amended return and correct it. File a 1040X to make the amendment.

    TTE has it right.

However, you should attach a properly-prepared Form 1040NR or 1040NR-EZ to the Form 1040X with the word "AMENDED" printed on the top of thest page.
