Opinion on water leak and mold
    Hi,

Not sure if this is the right forum, but thought I would try.

I noticed a bubbling in my bedroom ceiling from a water leak last night. I immedieately went upstairs (upside down house (kitchen upstairs) in southern california) and shut off all the water. Then I realized it wasn't the water pipes. My bottled water dispenser hadn't shut off completely and drained the entire 5 Gallon bottle onto the floor.

The water moved across the floor and down a wall that has one side facing the outside. I know there is some insulation in the wall.

I poped a hole in the bedroom ceiling to allow the water to drain.

My question is how worried do you think I need to be about mold? I figure at most the water that came through was 5 gallons (probably more like 3 or 4). I'm concerned about wet insulation, so I'll probably tear open more of the ceiling and blow air through with a fan.

Would just appreciate input if anyone has some.

Pretty dry weather here in so. Cal, but only about 1/2 mile from the ocean, so there can be moisture in the air. (not sure if that matters).

    TIA

Cartman, when you open that ceiling just pull out the insulation. You'll never get it to dry and new stuff is fairly cheap. Ventilate for several days and remove enough drywall or whatever it is until you have a sound ceiling. The mold issue is not so big since this was a one time, short term, wetness problem. Just be sure to get everything dry before tyou button up.
