    GED and moving away
OKay so all you know I'm 17
Well I am going for my GED
And I want to do this program where I'll move away
My mom says she doesn't care but I think she really does
I would be a little over 2 hours away
    Have health and dental coverage
My mom won't have to pay a penny
I'll learn a job skill get my licisens and GED
They'll also give me spending money every week

What do I do should I choose a place closer?

Is this Job Corps? Where you earn your GED and then get job training?

If you think you can handle being away from home then I'd say give it a go if however you think it might be too hard then find something closer. A lot of people move away at your age to go away to college and it can be hard for parents but they do adjust.

You are evading every question we are asking. WHO or WHAT is the program that is going to furnish you a GED and insurance and what job skill and what license ?

Most GED programs are just a class room you take classes a couple night a week to take the GED test.
Since you seem so vague telling us what type of program this is, and who is operating it, I have to say there must be something wrong about it.

GEDs can be earned at community colleges and at high school night classes, etc. One doesn't have to "go away" to earn a GED.

I agree with Glinda (again *grin*). Parents adjust.

Hey! Do what you have to do! I am sure your mom deep down is happy that you are actually doing something to better yourself and your well being! Shoot for it!! (especially if you plan on going further like a BIG Collage)!

Job Corp can be a wonder opportunity for the teen wanting to make a change in their life. If your mother agrees, I see it as a wonderful step in growing up and taking charge of your life.

Its natural to worry about her. But like I said its something that the majority of parents deal with when their children reach 17/18 and go off to college or move out and get jobs or like you go to job corp. She will miss you and miss having you around but she will deal and will be okay. What is probably more important to your mom is that you don't miss out on a great opportunity because you're worried about her. You won't be that far away and your mom can always come and visit.

We tease my Aunt all the time since she and my 17 year old cousin are so close. We keep saying that she is going to buy a little dog and name it my cousins name when she goes away to college.

I guess what I'm trying to tell you is that your mom will survive. She lived a whole life before you came into her life and while she will miss you and feel sad she will move through it. Just like moving away for you is a big step personally and developmentally it's the same way for a parent.
